Event: Jose Cuervo | Who’s in for The Subways and Fun Lovin’ Criminals?

This weekend Jose Cuervo will be bringing you The Subways and Fun Lovin’ Criminals along with some of South Africa’s best in what’s set to be the street party of the year.

#PartyAnimals in CT and JHB will be able to migrate between the 3 stages set up in and around The Mills Parking Lot, Newtown, Johannesburg on the 22nd and Harrington Street, East City, Cape Town on the 23rd of November.

Local supporting acts for the international headliners include Desmond and the Tutus, Ryan Gosling, Naas, Beast, kidofdoom, Sideshow, Yo Grapes, The Future Primitives, Battle Beyond the Stars, YOH!, Gateway Drugs, Beach Party and 4th.

The Subways recently performed as a part of Converse’s Get Loud series in Paris, so this is probably a good indication of what you can expect from them this weekend.

Event: Untamed Youth | Hello Beautiful EP Launch.

Tomorrow night Untamed Youth will be hosting the launch of Hello Beautiful‘s EP, Supernova Love and will feature a performance by the man himself, accompanied by Laudo Liebenberg, Danielle Hitchcock and Peach van Pletzen, who also appear on the EP. You can hear a teaser of Supernova Love below and as of tomorrow you’ll be to purchase it here.

Also performing on the night are Yesterday’s Pupil (Live Set), Tommy Gun vs Moe Joe, Mudblud and Gateway Drugs, who got remixed by Hello Beautiful below.

Event: Zars of Russia | Single Launch.

To kick things off this long weekend, Zars of Russia will be throwing a party at Ragazzi to launch their new single, “The Alchemist”, and to turn this launch into a party they’ve enlisted the help of Black Lung, The Liminals, Gateway Drugs, GOLDO and Life Magic. If you’re trying to figure out what you should be doing tonight, this is probably it.

Event: Untamed Youth | Pre-Workers Day.

Even though I usually write about this event, I’m often unable to actually attend it myself. That all changes tomorrow though when Untamed Youth takes place the night before our mutual day off, compliments of Workers Day. Tommy Gun, Yo Grapes, DJ Invizable and Mudblud will also be playing and if you add in a whole lot of cheap drinks and the fact that we’ve all just been paid, you really have no reason to miss this one. Yo Grapes also just released a remix of Gateway Drugs’ “Pop Song 3” which is really nice, and will hopefully be played tomorrow. Hear it below.

On a weekend where there doesn’t seem to be that much happening, New Voyage’s party at Hectic on Hope is here to give us all something to look forward to. The lineup for Saturday’s event includes a performance by Gateway Drugs, as well as sets by Ryan Gosling, Mudblud, EE EE, Blood Naartjie and Life Magic, who also supplied the second monthly mix in the series by New Voyage, which you can listen to below.

Sometimes it’s tough deciding how best to throw your money away. Allow me to ease that process.

Tuesday: David Gabriel Thorpe (Beach Party, The Dollfins, Gateway Drugs) will be doing a solo show at &Union for @texxonfire Tuesdays, starting at 7.30pm.

Tuesday: Once that’s done you can head over to this week’s Untamed Youth at Fiction, which is all about Youngbloodz and is based on a regular segment in Sideshow’s radio show, where she provides a platform for young/up-and-comers to show what they’re made of. This week features Bhashkar, Bombardier, Daddy Warbucks, DDE, Einstein Adonis and Mudblud.

Wednesday: This week SYNW at Assembly will be collaborating with YOH! for the first time and promises performances by Jakkals, Nicolaas van Reenen (Bateleur), Al Bairre, Stone-Age Citizens, Diamond Thug, Sexual Tension, Rakkie (The Frown), Young Supreme, Einstein Adonis, Ryan Gosling and Boyz2Men. If that wasn’t enough to get you excited there’ll also cheap drinks and giftbags for the first 30 people through the door.

Saturday: Last, but definitely not least is the next installment of After Hours at Assembly. The theme this time around is ‘Treasure Island”, so expect bilgewater, scurvy, Booty Beyond The Stars, free shots, waking up in a dead man’s chest, Sexual Treasure, and obviously a whole lot of feathers.

Event: Wrestlemania

The truth is, I initially didn’t pay much attention to this event when I first saw it pop up on Facebook. I’m not that into wrestling and wasn’t that interested in spending a night watching 2 guys go at it (obviously I recognise the humour in that). However, I later found out there will in fact be no actual (planned) wrestling and that it is instead about showcasing Nicolaas Van Reenen’s (Bateleur) new side project. You can only imagine my embarrassment. The night will be hosted at Liquid, which promises to be unimaginably seedy, and prolonged. Slabofmisuse is also DJing, and if one side project performance wasn’t enough for you, you can also expect performances by Desert Head (Christian Tiger School), Jacobsnake (Voice Tag/B-team), OX ++ (Beatenberg) and my personal favourite, Gateway Drugs (Beach Party), who recently released a truly amazing debut album, which you can download here, and listen to below.

To celebrate all these things that are definitely worth celebrating, I have a few great songs to share! The first is the latest release by South African born, St. Lucia. Apparently one of his recent performances was attended by Jay-Z and Leonardo Di Caprio. The modest thing to say is that it’s because of his amazing talent, but we all know it’s actually because I featured him on TRMB here.

More local talent in the video for “Airwaves” by Cape Town-based, Gateway Drugs. They did a brilliant job with the video and I can’t wait to see more from them!

Having two of my favourite artists at the moment feature on one song is just amazing in itself, and the remix is also good too.

Lemonade are all about Summer, as you can see in this picture. Also, loving the remix Pional did for their song, “Soft Kiss”.

Ending off with some hip hop from newcomer, QuESt. His song, “One Way” was produced by Mt Eden who used a sample from Netsky’s “Your Way” that really makes the song what it is, and the clouds in the video made me love it even more.

I’ve been slacking a bit lately – soz. But to make up for it I have a substantial amount of music to share today and first is the video for Justice’s new single, “New Lands”. Now this is a sport I would actually watch.

Gateway Drugs is a Cape Town-based band that I don’t really know a whole lot about. This song is great though. Go Africa.

Trust have created an album that I think would inspire some particularly seedy behaviour. These are my favourites:
