The xx’s song for The Great Gatsby soundtrack is doing all kinds of amazing things to me. While Lana Del Rey felt like an obvious fit the soundtrack, The xx seemed a little less so. Surprisingly however, it works and the strings at the end really enhance their usual minimalism making it sound really powerful and worthy of its place on the soundtrack.

I can’t believe I missed the star-studded event at Assembly last night. Literally tearing up as I write this post. And yes, obviously this would happen the ONE time I actually don’t go to After Hours. This is just so typical. I’m not going to stop drinking until I forget about everything. Oh, and for all of you that were there last night – I HATE YOU, SERIOUSLY. But whatever, happy Friday, I guess.

The xx just released the video for the latest single off their sophomore album, Coexist. The group spent 2 days underwater to film it and the outcome is incredibly beautiful, making use of a lot of slow motion (which I obviously appreciate) and auroras of colours, similar to those used in the video graphics created when they first released the song.

The xx have released another song from their upcoming album, Coexist. They have this amazing talent of always somehow managing to anticipate what you’re thinking and sing about it in one of their songs, and “Chained” is a pretty good example of that. Listen to it below.

From what I’ve heard so far, Coexist is definitely shaping up to be just as good as their first album, if not better.

The XX are due to release their new album later this year and a live performance of the first single, “Friction”, just surfaced. If you’re a fan of the XX (and who isn’t, really?) you’re gonna love this, it sounds amazing and I can’t wait to hear what the studio version is like.
